Afterschool workshops

At our afterschool art club, we explore a huge range of arts and crafts; workshops including wirework, clay, fused glass, printmaking, felting, and more. Children are introduced to new materials and techniques, and are then given the freedom to decide what they’d like to create. The studio is thoughtfully arranged so that a wide range of tools, equipment, and materials are always accessible, allowing children to follow their ideas and work at their own pace.

I create a safe and encouraging space where children feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes, experimenting, and discovering what they enjoy. Through this process, children naturally build confidence, resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills, while also developing a sense of belonging within the group and the studio.

Relationships are at the heart of everything I do, and every child is valued as an individual. Sessions are kept small, with a maximum of 8 children, creating a supportive environment where every child feels seen. Suitable for ages 6 - 14.

Our ethos

I have been trained in Montessori education and run the afterschool workshops on these principles; based on a child-centred approach, valuing the enjoyment of the process, having fun, and seeing where it takes each of us as individuals; where children are encouraged to grow as able and independent young people and take responsibility in caring for their environment.

What we do

Children have the opportunity to use quality materials and equipment, including access to a printing press, and to have their glass creations fired in the studio's kiln. Workshops include wet felting, clay, wirework, mandalas, needle felting, collage, quilling, fused glass, cyanotype, art using our cricut machine, printmaking and much more.

“My little girl attends Flying Fish studio after school and in the holidays and absolutely loves it. She is always learning new arts and crafts and enjoys spending time with Hannah and the other children being creative. “You make everyone feel they belong, comfortable and want to return again and again. “ - Claire (parent)

“Fantastic art classes. Huge range of techniques (2 years no repetition) and a good mix of guided activities and student-led creations. Outstanding teaching.” - Liz (parent)

“My daughter really enjoys these classes and I can see her enthusiasm and passion shining through with Hannah's wonderful nurturing support. She comes home with so many ideas and her creativity has flourished. This is so lovely to see when before she didn't have the confidence to experiment or try new things, now I'm happy to see her absorbed in her own little projects inspired by the art she is doing with Hannah. The individual and child-led style that Hannah uses means that every child comes away with something different and unique which I love. Highly recommend Hannah's workshops!” - Aisha (parent)

FAQs

My child’s school finishes late, will they be too late to join the workshop?

Children can arrive anytime from 3:30pm, but most children arrive later because of their school’s finishing time. We don't tend to start the workshop itself until 4pm. It also gives children a chance to relax before we start e.g. have a snack/finish a project from the week before/use their sketchbook.

What if my child has an allergy?

You will be asked to complete a Personal Details Form which contains space for you to write any relevant medical information, including allergies. If any details change, please contact me so it can be updated. You may be asked to complete a Food Allergy Plan. Please note that the studio is based in our family home and we have 2 pet cats who may come into the studio. If this is a problem, or if you have any concerns, please let me know.
